Chairman Arrington's Statement on H.R. 9716:
“We can’t get our fiscal house in order, responsibly steward taxpayers’ treasure, and address our national debt without fixing our broken budget process, which is exactly what Rep. Blake Moore’s legislative reform will help us achieve.”
Representative Moore's Statement on H.R. 9716:
“Americans have made it abundantly clear that they welcome the Trump Administration’s efforts to rein in wasteful federal spending and lower our crippling national debt. The Increasing Baseline Updates Act will help this critical initiative by enhancing Congress’s ability to make informed decisions during the budgeting process with more consistently updated data from the Congressional Budget Office. I thank Chairman Jodey Arrington and the Budget Committee for their overwhelming support of this bill, and I am thrilled it has officially passed the House!”
Background:
The warning signs of our nation’s unsustainable fiscal trajectory are astounding. With over $36 trillion in debt, it is imperative for Congress to enhance the level of transparency and accountability within the congressional budget process to ensure taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly.
H.R. 9716, led by Rep. Blake Moore, will improve government efficiency in the budget process by requiring consistency from CBO when releasing baseline updates each year, ensuring Congress has up-to-date information on the most relevant budget and economic analyses and codifying common practice prior to 2020.
